A visit to the Berlin Buchstabenmuseum AKA the Museum of Letters

I had the chance to visit the Buchstabenmuseum (Museum of Letters) last january. This museum was founded in 2005 and opened to the public in 2008. What can you find in this museum? It possesses a collection of letters and signs that are rescued from public spaces, preserved and restored.
 
There are two main areas. The first one is dark and the pieces are hanging on the walls. Most of the letters here are made with neon lights. Each piece has its own details sheet where you can find out about the date when it was manufactured, where was it placed, what typeface was used (when it’s not a custom), etc. The second area is brighter and it’s more like a warehouse where hundreds of letters and signs are stored and classified, for example, by colours.
 
This museum is the place to go if you are in Berlin and you like typography, lettering, calligraphy or graphic design in general.
